The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) is now accepting applications for the FIFA Research Scholarships. This prestigious award provides up to USD 25,000 to support innovative research in football. Researchers under 40 years old, including those in their second year of doctoral studies or established researchers, are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be no older than 40 years in the year of application and should either be  doctoral students in at least their second year of study or established researchers with documented academic work at recognized institutions. Group applications are also accepted, provided each member meets these criteria.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All countries
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship can be applied to research in any field related to football, including humanities, social sciences, law, economics, or medical sciences.
  • Admissible Criteria: To qualify, applicants must:
  • Be no older than 40 years of age in the year of application.
  • For individual applicants, be a doctoral student in at least their second year or a researcher with documented academic work at a recognized research institution.
  • For group applications, each member must meet the above criteria.

Offered Benefits

Application Process

Applications must be submitted via the Online Application Form available at FIFA Research Scholarship. The application process opens on September 1 and closes on September 30 annually.
