This competition is designed to foster an understanding of life insurance among international students pursuing their undergraduate or graduate program at a Japanese university.The Foundation for the Advancement of Life & Insurance Around the World (FALIA) is an organization focused on promoting and enhancing understanding of life insurance globally. Through various initiatives and activities, FALIA aims to elevate awareness about the significance of life insurance and its role in modern society.

FALIA Essay Competition for International Students in Japan Established in 1998, King Khalid University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Abha (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Asir. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Alnamas, Bisha, Khamis Mushait, Mehayel. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia, King Khalid University (KKU) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: over-45,000 students) coeducational higher education institution. King Khalid University (KKU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this Saudi Arabian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: International students from countries or regions recognized by FALIA for contributing to the development of the insurance business.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Not specified; open to students from various academic majors
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be international students currently residing and studying in Japan with a status of residence “?? (RYUGAKU)”
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a Japanese university (??????/DAIGAKU, DAIGAKUIN)
  • Belong to countries or regions recognized by FALIA (or inquire directly if not on the list)
  • Maintain university enrollment until the awards ceremony in early 2024
  • Submit original and unpublished essays on the theme of Perspectives on Life Insurance
  • Comply with the word/character limits for the essay
  • Follow the provided essay guidelines, including proper acknowledgment of sources and compliance with copyright assignment.

Offered Benefits

  • 1st Prize: ¥500,000
  • 2nd Prize: ¥300,000
  • 3rd Prize: ¥100,000 (shared among several essays)
  • Effort Award: ¥50,000 (shared among several essays)
  • 10 applicants will receive a ¥5,000 bookstore gift certificate each.
