The Department of International University Relations is pleased to announce the availability of Extraordinary Support Through Special Funds aimed at supporting international prospective students, enrolled students, doctoral candidates, and scientists affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

Funding is available for: international students, doctoral candidates, scientists at RWTH Aachen University, as well as international prospective students, doctoral candidates, and scientists who intend to study or stay at RWTH Aachen University and are in the preparatory phaseRWTH Aachen University is a renowned institution known for its excellence in engineering and technology located in Aachen, Germany. Extraordinary Support Through Special Funds for Ukrainian Students, Germany for PhD Founded in 1870, Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen University) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Aachen (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), North Rhine-Westphalia. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia), Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities affected by the conflict in Ukraine
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Any subject offered by RWTH Aachen University
  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Have fled their home country or face financial hardship due to the war in Ukraine
    • Only foreign students with “Bildungsausländer” status are eligible for funding
    • For doctoral students and scientists, a letter of invitation or recommendation from a professor at RWTH Aachen University is required.

Application Process

Interested applicants must submit the following documents via email by the application deadline of Sunday, April 30, 2024:

  • Application form detailing current personal situation and plans at RWTH Aachen University
  • Scanned copy of identity card and residence permit (if available)
  • Proof of previous school or university education
  • Proof of language skills (German and/or English)
  • Letter of invitation or recommendation for doctoral students and scientists
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Copy of employment contract (if applicable)
  • Notice of rejection from the BAföG office (if applicable)

Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline will not be considered for the scholarship.
