In partnership with the Breakthrough Prize Foundation, ALLEA has launched the European Funds for Displaced Scientists to support Ukrainian academic institutions affected by the war for the academic year 2022/2023.

The aim of this funding is to support Ukrainian academic institutions in the continuation and reinstatement of their scientific operations and research collaborations, as well as to support initiatives that facilitate the reintegration of researchers upon their return to Ukraine.

Summary

A fine chance for Ukraine students in Germany.All European Academies is the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities. It was founded in 1994 and brought together more than 50 Academies of Sciences and Learned Societies from over 40 member countries. Since May 2018, the President of ALLEA has been Antonio Loprieno. ALLEA speaks out on behalf of its members on the European and international stages, promotes science as a global public good, and facilitates scientific collaboration across borders and disciplines.

Why study at ALLEA’s? ALLEA’s mission includes facilitating the collaboration between Academies, fostering excellence and high ethical standards in research, promoting the autonomy of science and research, representing the European Academies’ positions to the European authorities, and contributing to the improvement of the framework conditions for science and research. Academies are self-governing bodies of distinguished scientists drawn from all fields of scholarly inquiry. They contain a unique human resource of intellectual excellence, experience, and multidisciplinary knowledge dedicated to advancing science and scholarship in Europe and the world.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Ukraine.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • The application is open to Ukrainian academic institutions directly affected by the war to support them in the continuation and reinstatement of their scientific operations and research collaborations, as well as to support initiatives that facilitate the reintegration of researchers upon their return to Ukraine.
  • Applicants must be from Ukrainian academic institutions operating in Ukraine or in exile (including virtually), whose educational activities have been directly affected by the war. As a rule, the maximum amount applied should not exceed €75,000 per institution.
  • Applying institutions must provide a detailed description of the damage incurred and a budget overview detailing how the funds will be allocated.

Offered Benefits

The university will provide the maximum amount applied for should not exceed €75,000 per institution. The fund is endowed with a total of $1.5 million and has two components.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To be considered, applicants must submit  online applications to the institutions. After that, complete the  application form and budget form. Applications are to be completed, submitted digitally, and sent to   with the subject line “EFDS Application, Funding Line 2.”
  • Supporting Documents: EFDS must be submitted as an attachment with short CVs of the grant-supported personnel.
  •  Admission Requirements: Applicants must have a previous year’s degree certificate and EFDS Application.
  • Language Requirement: If your education has not been conducted in the English language, you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency.
