Benefits of ETH4D Masters Scholarship
The ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship Programme covers the following expenses:
- Economy roundtrip ticket (max. 1’500 CHF)1
- Visa fees
- Living allowance for 10 months of the duration of the study programme (September 2024 to February 2025 and November 2025 to February 2026): 2’200 CHF per month
- The living costs for the duration of the Junior Project Assignment (JPO) (March 2025-?October 2025) will be covered by a separate stipend granted to all participants of the MAS GCSD programme by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC)
- Programme Cost: 6’260 CHF (in the form of a tuition fee waiver)
1Expenses for flight tickets and visa fees are reimbursed in cash once the awarded student has arrived in Switzerland
Requirements for ETH4D Masters Scholarship
- The candidate must hold a completed and recognised Master’s degree from a university
- The minimum English standard is TOEFL level C1 / TOEFL 95-?120.
- The scholarship is open to candidates from all least-?, lower-? and lower-?middle income countries on the external pageDAC-?list of the OECDcall_made (students from upper-?middle-income countries and high income countries are not eligible)
- Candidates must be accepted by the ETH MAS GCSD programme (interviews take place in May)
Selection Process
The ETH4D Exchanges and Scholarship committee consists of members of the ETH4D Executive Office and an external member. The scholarship scheme is competitive. Applicants are notified at the End of May 2024 the latest.
Application Documents
- CV of the candidate (max. 2 pages). CV must include date of birth and gender.
- Copy of passport.
- Master’s certificate and academic transcript(s), including grades.
- 1–2-?page application letter, stating the motivation to attend the programme and the impact for the candidate’s career development and beyond.
- Two reference letters. The reference letters must be sent to the ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship office ( ) directly through the person who provided the reference letter (and not the candidate).
- Certificate of English level (minimum level C1 / TOEFL 95-?120). Language certificate can be submitted until April 1 if the rest of the application documents are received by the 29 February deadline.

- Application to the ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship Programme.
Note: Candidates will only be considered for an ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship if admitted to the ETH MAS GCSD programme.
Since the two admission and selection processes run in parallel, the MAS GCSD programme office will share the admission letter confirming admission to the study programme directly with the ETH4D–GCSD Scholarship office.
