PhD studentships will be available across the consortium for students commencing their studies in the 2015-16 academic year. The University of Kent schools below are eligible to put forward candidates for consideration under the pathways specified.

ESRC PhD studentships Founded in 1965, University of Kent is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Canterbury (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), South East England. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Medway, Paris, Brussels, Athens. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of Kent (KENT) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Kent (KENT) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 54 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to Home and EU candidates; please see guidance on residency requirements outlined in the ESRC’s Postgraduate Funding Guide.
  • Candidates without a Master’s degree are likely to be required to undertake a research training Master’s before starting their PhD (1+3 model).
  • Studentships will be awarded on the basis of the academic excellence of both the candidate and the research proposal.
