In partnership with the ESRC Centre, the University of Bristol is inviting outstanding candidates to become a part of the ESRC Centre for Sociodigital Futures PhD International Studentships. The university is now accepting for the academic session 2022/2023.

This PhD studentship will explore the use of NEFD in sociodigital futures research, taking the ESRC Centre for Sociodigital Futures as a site of empirical, ethnographic enquiry.

ESRC Centre for Sociodigital Futures International PhD Established in 1909, University of Bristol is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Bristol (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), South West England. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of Bristol (UoB) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Applications are accepted from around the world.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in the  following research areas:
  • Decolonising the Imagination: Futures Literacies in Immersive spaces(supervised by Profs Keri Facer and Arathi Sriprakash, School of Education, Bristol)
  • Mapping Sustainability Outcomes Across Connected Sites of Sociodigital Practice(supervised by Prof David M. Evans, School of Management Bristol)
  • Methodological Futures for Sociodigital Research(supervised by Prof Susan Halford, School of Sociology, Politics and International Relations, Bristol)
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must have master’s degree from a recognized university.
  • You must be an international student.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a research degree program at the University of Bristol
  • Applicants completed, or be due to complete, an ESRC-accredited or an equivalent research Master with a significant element of research training. Applicants may be asked for further information to determine the relevance of the content covered. An equivalent research Master is defined as including significant social sciences research design and quantitative and qualitative research methods elements.

Offered Benefits

The studentship programme will cover tuition fees as well as a maintenance grant (based on the UKRI rates), and include access to an additional Research Training Support Grant (RTSG). Other opportunities available to studentship holders (if applicable), include an overseas fieldwork allowance, internships, overseas institutional visits and small grants.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Students are required to take  admission in the PhD degree programme at the university. After that, they can apply application for these funding programs.
  • Supporting Documents: You must upload all the required documents such as two academic references, an English language certificate, full CV, and transcripts. No additional documents for the award would be asked by the university, but there is a possibility of asking at the time of admission.
  • Admission Requirements: For taking admission, applicants need to check all  entry requirements of the university.
  • Language Requirement: If you are non-native English students, you need to achieve a certain level of English to qualify for a place on your chosen course.
