Brunel University London is pleased to announce the EPSRC DLA/Rolls Royce PhD Studentship on Prediction of Turbine Cooling Flows Using Scale-Resolving CFD. This project focuses on advancing turbine cooling technologies through high-fidelity CFD, LES, and AI methods.

Applicants must hold or expect to obtain a First-Class or Upper Second-Class Honours degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Design, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is advantageous but not essential. Good communication skills, motivation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are required. Applicants must also meet the university’s English language requirements.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Hold or expect to receive a First-Class or Upper Second-Class Honours degree (2:1) in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Design, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field).

  • A Postgraduate Master’s degree is advantageous but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and model fundamental flow features using CFD methods.

  • Experience with Fortran, C, C++, Python, or Matlab is beneficial.

  • Strong motivation, independence, and communication skills are essential.

  • Meet the English language requirements:

    • IELTS: 6.5 (min 6.0 in each area)

    • TOEFL: 90 (min 20 in all)

    • Pearson: 59 (min 59 in subscores)

    • BrunELT: 63% (min 58% in all areas)
