The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) invites applications for its prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowships program. Aimed at promoting international mobility and scientific excellence, the fellowships support early-career researchers in the life sciences who wish to conduct research in laboratories across Europe and worldwide.

The fellowships is open to researchers worldwide who have recently completed their PhD in the life sciences. To be eligible, applicants must have obtained their PhD within the last two years and have no more than two years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of application. International mobility is a key requirement—candidates must move to a host lab in a different country from where they earned their PhD or conducted recent research.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The fellowship supports research in life sciences; eligible projects must be hosted in academic institutions or research centers

  • Admissible Criteria:

    • Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree at the start of the fellowship

    • Applications must involve international mobility—applicants must move to a different country from where they completed their PhD or held recent employment

    • The applicant must have no more than two years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of application

    • Applications must be submitted within two years of obtaining a PhD

Application Process

Applications must be submitted through the EMBO online application portal. The process includes the submission of a research proposal, CV, publication list, and letters of reference. Applications are accepted throughout the year, with the next cutoff date: Friday, 11 July 2025 at 14:00 CEST.
