The International Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS) and the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO) invite IBUS member investigators to apply for the inaugural ECCO-IBUS Research Grant 2025. This prestigious opportunity aims to support clinical excellence in research exploring the utility of intestinal ultrasound in the assessment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Applicants must be current IBUS members, have expertise in inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal ultrasound, and have routine access to an ultrasound machine. The research proposal must demonstrate scientific merit, feasibility, and alignment with IBUS priorities.

The International Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS) is a global, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to advancing the use of intestinal ultrasound (IUS) in the management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Established by leading experts in the field, IBUS focuses on promoting clinical excellence, education, and research in bowel ultrasound techniques. Through training programs, collaborative research initiatives, and advocacy, IBUS aims to standardize the use of intestinal ultrasound worldwide, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and improve patient outcomes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to applicants worldwide
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The grant will be awarded for clinical research projects investigating the use of intestinal ultrasound in inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be a current IBUS member at the time of submission.

  • Must be established within a clinical unit specializing in inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Must have established expertise in performing intestinal ultrasound with routine access to an ultrasound machine.

  • The submitted research proposal must demonstrate scientific merit, feasibility, and relevance to IBUS scientific priorities.

  • Applicants must submit a protocol of no more than 5 pages detailing the scientific aim, background/significance, methods/research plan, budget, and references.

  • A curriculum vitae (CV) must also be submitted.

Offered Benefits

A grant of 40,000 EUR will be awarded to the selected investigator to support their research project.

Application Process

  • Submit your application online through the provided application form.
  • Successful applicants will be notified in early 2026, and the official award certificate will be handed over during the IBUS members’ meeting at the ECCO Congress in Stockholm, Sweden, in February 2026.
