Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) is introducing a Early Career Researcher Grant (ECRG) for highly motivated students. The award is open for the academic session 2024/2025.

The ECRG program is meticulously crafted to cater to the needs of researchers within the first five years of their postdoctoral research careers. By providing financial assistance, the program seeks to empower early career researchers in their pursuit of groundbreaking discoveries and scholarly achievements. Through this initiative, AINSE endeavors to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence in research within the field of nuclear science and engineering.The Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) is an integral organization that has been enhancing Australia’s nuclear science, engineering, and related research fields for over 60 years. These benefits aim to foster scientific advancement and promote effective collaboration between AINSE members and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). AINSE is connected with all Australian and New Zealand universities, providing researchers access to Australia’s nuclear science, technology, and engineering expertise and infrastructure.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university.
  • Admissible Criteria: To qualify for the ECRG, applicants must adhere to the following criteria:
  • Applicants must be in their first five years (full-time equivalent) of employment in a postdoctoral Early Career Research position at an AINSE Member Institution.
  • Allowances are made for career breaks when assessing the five-year FTE eligibility requirement.
  • The postdoctoral research work must be undertaken in collaboration with ANSTO. Recipients must be listed on an approved proposal to commence work at an ANSTO facility between 1st October 2024 – 31st December 2025 (success in the ECRG application will be contingent upon success in a relevant ANSTO portal round).

Offered Benefits

The Early Career Researcher Grant consists of a payment of up to A$10,000 given to persons in the first five years (full-time equivalent) of their postdoctoral research career.

Application Process

To apply for the ECRG, applicants must have established a connection with an appropriate ANSTO collaborator on the instrument(s) they will be using for their research and plan to commence work at an ANSTO facility under an approved proposal within the grant period specified in the Terms and Conditions.

Applications for the ECRG open on 1st May 2024 and close on 31st July 2024, 11.59 pm AEST. Applicants must complete the application form using the online application portal before the application deadline.
