The University of Liverpool is pleased to invite applications for Duncan Norman Research Scholarship for the academic year 2017-2018. These scholarships are open to UK, EU and overseas students to pursue full-time PhD programme.

The objective of the Scholarship is to enable academically gifted students who also have the personal qualities to make them leaders in society, to pursue PhD study at the University of Liverpool.

The University of Liverpool is a public university based in the city of Liverpool, England. Founded as a college in 1881, it gained its royal charter in 1903 with the ability to award degrees and is also known to be one of the six original “red brick” civic universities.

International students must have an internationally-recognized English language qualification.

Duncan Norman Research Scholarships at University of Liverpool in UK, 2017-2018 for Phd Established in 1881, University of Liverpool is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Liverpool (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), North West England. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of Liverpool (UoL) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Liverpool (UoL) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 138 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

The Scholarship is available to all prospective Home, EU and Overseas candidates who have been made an offer of study on any full-time PhD programme with effect from 1 October 2017.  Please note that prospective MRes, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Off-Site applicants, or currently registered University of Liverpool MPhil/PhD students are not eligible for application to this scholarship and that it is open only to candidates who are starting a programme of postgraduate research in October 2017.

Offered Benefits

This prestigious Scholarship consists of the following funding and research support:

  • Competitive annual maintenance stipend of £15,000 (or top-up to this level of maintenance if the candidate is in receipt of other funding)
  • Full payment of tuition fees (Home, EU or Overseas)
  • An accommodation allowance of £4635 for use against the cost of either university or private accommodation.
  • Laptop or desktop computer up to £1000 in value
  • Support for conference expenses in years 2 & 3 of up to £500 pa
  • Annual travel expenses from the home country to Liverpool (for EU/Overseas candidates only)

The Scholarship is awarded for one year in the first instance and, subject to satisfactory academic progress, will be renewed for a total period of up to three years. Priority will be given to students who have been awarded research council funding.
