Digital Humanities : Fully Funded PhD Studentship: Text Corpora and Interactive Visualization of Text Analytics


The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and skilled software developer who is keen to create an innovative public resource with a visual interface for computational analyses of a culturally interesting text dataset. You will work with researchers at Swansea University based in Computer Science and in Arts and Humanities, whose projects include experimental visual analysis of literary multi-translations corpora. Cross-language proposals are particularly welcome, but you will not be restricted to that kind of data. The successful applicant will be the one who proposes the most exciting and feasible project, as well as meeting all the other criteria.

Supervisors: Dr Robert S Laramee (Department of Computer Science, Swansea University) and Dr Tom Cheesman (Department of Modern Languages, Swansea University). The successful candidate will be expected to start their studentship in January 2017.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have a BSc or an MSc in Computer Science. Due to funding restrictions, this studentship is open to UK/EU students only.

Offered Benefits

The studentship covers the full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a tax free stipend of £14,296 p.a.

There will also be additional funds for research expenses (e.g. conferences, fieldwork) up to a value of £1200 p.a. (£600 p.a. from the College of Arts and Humanities; £600 p.a. from the College of Science).
