Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, Charles University, invites applications for a limited number of partial scholarships for students of all fee-based programs in academic year 2021/22.

A total of eight scholarships are available, ear-marked for students from developing countries and/or countries going through a process of political and economic transition.

Although they would like to continue the development scholarship scheme annually, this is a subject to their receiving further funding for future years. At present, therefore, they cannot guarantee that similar scholarships will be available for students’ in the forthcoming years.

Development Scholarships at Charles University, Czech Republic Founded in 1348, Univerzita Karlova (Charles University) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Prague (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Hradec Kralove, Plzen. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministerstvo školství, mládeže a telovýchovy Ceské republiky (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Czech Republic), Univerzita Karlova (UK) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: over-45,000 students) coeducational higher education institution. Univerzita Karlova (UK) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications for these scholarships are open to all students from developing countries and/or countries going through a process of political and economic transition, who are applying for study in one of their Bachelor’s studies or Master’s studies programmes at FSV UK from academic year 2021/22

Offered Benefits

From the year 2021 on, the scholarship is administered as a one-time lump-sum payment of CZK 75 000 (approx. EUR 3 000) to selected students to support the student’s necessary living costs. There is no tuition fee waiver as a part of the scholarship.

Application Process

Applications must be made on the form that accompanies the announcement, and must include the following documents:

  • completed application form
  • motivation essay of no more than 1000 words, explaining why they need a scholarship, and what they hope to gain from their studies at Charles University
  • two letters of recommendation from teachers, who know the student from their previous studies, including confirmation of the student’s financial need (NOTE: The current scholarship holders who are reapplying do not need to submit the two recommendation letters or write the essay. Please include a cover note and one recommendation letter from a Charles University academic who knows you from your studies with your application.)
  • Applications should be sent to the Manager of the International Office. All documents submitted must be originals and written in the English language, or accompanied by certified translations. (IMPORTANT: All scholarship applicants MUST also lodge an online application for their selected study program and note the name of the programme on their application for a scholarship.
