Applicants must have a J.D. or be graduating from law school by spring 2026. They must partner with a U.S.-based nonprofit host organization and design a project addressing unmet legal needs in underserved communities. A strong commitment to public interest law is essential.

Equal Justice Works is a U.S. based nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing the next generation of public interest lawyers committed to equal justice. It supports law students and early-career attorneys through fellowships, educational debt relief, and public service career opportunities. By empowering legal professionals to tackle unmet legal needs in underserved communities, Equal Justice Works plays a vital role in advancing access to justice nationwide.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: United States

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The fellowship is open to legal professionals proposing public interest legal projects; no specific subject limitation.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Have a J.D. or be currently enrolled in their final year of law school (graduating by spring 2026)

    • Partner with a U.S.-based nonprofit host organization willing to supervise and support the project

    • Design a project that addresses an unmet legal need in an underserved community

    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to public interest law and equal justice
