DDE Academy International PhD Scholarships in Denmark

Eligibility Criteria

• Eligible Countries: All nationalities
• Acceptable Course or Subjects: Applications can be in any research field within diabetes, metabolism, or endocrinology.
• Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, In order to apply for a co-financed (2/3) PhD scholarship, the following requirements must be fulfilled:
• Applicants must have a Master’s or equivalent degree from a foreign university by the time of application.
• Applicants must not already be enrolled as a PhD student when receiving the grant notification letter (the 6th of June, 2023). This means that already enrolled PhD students cannot apply for or obtain funding from the DDEA. The DDEA reserves the right to check with the relevant institution whether you are enrolled as a PhD student.
• The principal supervisor must be associated with a Danish university (foreign applicants may contact the DDEA Secretariat, which will assist by recommending a potential principal supervisor associated with a Danish university). Please note that a principal supervisor can only be the principal supervisor on one application for a DDEA PhD scholarship (including DDEA PhD scholarships with co-funding from the life sciences industry and DDEA/DCA Cross-Academy PhD scholarships) (per application round).
• A co-supervisor from another research discipline (e.g., basic science, clinical science, epidemiology, psychology, etc.) or a collaborator from abroad or another sector (i.e., general practice, university hospitals, industry) must be affiliated with the project.
• Only PhD candidates may apply for a PhD scholarship.

Offered Benefits

Danish Diabetes and Endocrine Academy (DDEA) will provide four 2/3-financed PhD scholarships of 1,100,000 DKK each, covering salary and tuition fees over two years.

• The grant must be activated within six months of receiving the notification letter (or by a further agreement with the DDEA).
• The PhD scholarship will be granted in June 2023, and enrolment should be within six months after receiving the grant notification letter.

• How to Apply: Applications must be written in English and submitted via an online application form. Applicants must have a user login to the DDEA’s website before applying.

• Supporting Documents: Applicants must upload an application in one single PDF file, including the following documents:
• Title page: Name of applicant and project title
• Abstract in English (half A4 page)
• Lay abstract in Danish (half to one A4 page) with a short description of your project, including the purpose of the project and its significance for patients/health care professionals/industry
• Project description (The page limit for the research plan is five pages) including:
• Specific aims
• Background and significance of the project to the research area
• Preliminary studies (if applicable)
• Research design and methods
• Literature cited
• Motivation letter (max. one page)
• A detailed schedule for the course of study
• Curriculum Vitae
• Publication list including journal impact factor (no page limit)
• Recommendation letter from the principal supervisor
• Short CV of the principal supervisor (max. two pages)
• Copy of your Master’s degree certificate
• Collaboration agreement with other research groups nationally or internationally (e-mail correspondence is sufficient documentation)
• Other relevant documents
• Admission Requirements: All eligible applications will be submitted to the DDEA’s Grant Review Committee for a scientific evaluation. The application evaluation will consider four criteria: 1) the applicant; 2) the project; 3) the research environment; and 4) the DDEA funding focus areas: internationalization, interdisciplinary, and collaboration across sectors.
• Language Requirement: High-level English language skills are required (oral as well as written)
