This scholarship program is exclusively arranged for Chinese students enrolled in Canadian curriculum high school in China and further plan to pursue their higher education in Canada at Saint Mary‡s University. Students who demonstrate merit with an 80% or higher admission average and have applied to an undergraduate study programme at SMU will be considered for this award valued at a total of $20,000 CAD, $5,000 CAD per year.

David Wang Scholarships Program for Chinese Students in Canada for Bachelor Founded in 1802, Saint Mary's University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Halifax (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Nova Scotia. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, Nova Scotia, Saint Mary's University (SMU) is a medium-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 7,000-7,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Saint Mary's University (SMU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 217 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Chinese national students are eligible to apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can apply for any undergraduate degree program among the ones taught at Saint Mary‡s University.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must be enrolled (Grade 12) in a Canadian curriculum high school in China.
  • The applicants must have an 80% or higher admission average.
  • The applicants must have attained a minimum 2.5 GPA (and full-time enrolment at Saint Mary‡s University) is required for renewal.

Offered Benefits

The successfully selected winners of this application will be awarded an amount of $5,000 CAD per year for a maximum of 4 years of study, i.e. $20,000 CAD in total.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Students who want to apply for the opportunity are requested to email the application and supporting documents to with subject line: David Wang application.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Letter of recommendation from a high school Counselor, Principal or Teacher
  • A 500-750 word essay (in English) outlining why you wish to study in Canada, and at Saint Mary‡s University
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must have a senior High School (Upper Middle School) Graduation Diploma with a minimum 70% average with no mark below 60%. Test of English.
  • Language Requirement: The students must submit scores of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • IELTS Academic – 6.5
  • TOEFL iBT – 80
  • CAEL – 60
  • Pearson PTE – 58
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) – 120
