This grant is designed to support the development of high-quality open educational resources (OER) that can be used by instructors and students in computing education programs in the Faculty of Computer Science. We are looking for proposals that focus on innovative approaches to teaching computing concepts and skills, as well as those that address gaps in existing OER.

Dalhousie University Open Educational Resource in Computing Education Grant 2025 Founded in 1818, Dalhousie University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Halifax (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Nova Scotia. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Dalhousie University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 201 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 60-70% making this Canadian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Alignment with the goals of the grant.
  • Potential impact on computing education, including the ability to address gaps in existing OER.
  • Clarity and feasibility of the project plan and budget.
  • Qualifications and experience of the applicant(s).

All interested applicants are welcome to explain how they addressed the feedback from committee members during the resubmission of a proposal.

Required Documents:

To apply for this grant, interested applicants must submit a proposal of no more than 2,500 words that includes the following:

  • A description of the proposed OER, including its intended audience, topics covered, and pedagogical approach.
  • A detailed project plan that outlines the development timeline, milestones, and deliverables.
  • A budget that outlines how the grant funds will be used, including any additional funding or in-kind support.
  • A brief biography of the applicant(s), highlighting their qualifications and experience in computing education.
