FGS Emergency Bursary for Postgraduate Students at Dalhousie University 2025 Founded in 1818, Dalhousie University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Halifax (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Nova Scotia. The admission rate range is 60-70% making this Canadian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a registered graduate student in the second year or later of a full-time program.

  • You must be experiencing a temporary financial emergency, such as unforeseen medical expenses, and demonstrate financial need. 

  • You must have applied for government student loans and/or a bank line of credit, where available.

  • If eligible, a maximum of one FGS emergency bursary will be granted to you per 12-month period.

The maximum value of an emergency bursary is $1,000.

  1. Complete the online  FGS emergency bursary application and include any requested supporting documentation along with your application.
  2. Applications are reviewed monthly by the FGS Emergency Bursary committee. If awarded, the funds will be applied directly to any outstanding balance on your university account. Otherwise, you will receive your funds by e-transfer within two weeks of the decision. 
  3. There are no appeals on bursary decisions. If your circumstances change after a bursary application is denied, you may submit a second application.
