These opportunities are available for students who want to pursue a Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Population Studies at RIPS.

Founded in 1948, the University of Ghana provides more technology-based and vocational courses as well as postgraduate training. It is one of the few universities in the Africa continent offering programs in nuclear physics and nuclear engineering. It has eight newly created halls of residence.

DAAD Scholarships at University of Ghana, 2020 for Master Established in 1948, University of Ghana is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Legon (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Greater Accra. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Korle-Bu, Accra City. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the National Accreditation Board, Ghana (National Accreditation Board, Ghana), University of Ghana (UG) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Ghana (UG) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 71 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 30-40% making this Ghanaian higher education organization a very selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Countries: West African country students are eligible to apply.
Acceptable Course or Subjects: The sponsorship will be awarded to study in any Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees offered by the University.
Admissible Criteria: For MA students: Applicants must have successfully completed generally a three-year/four-year university degree and obtained above average results (minimum of second class upper division)

  • Clearly show motivation and a strong commitment
  • Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the language of instruction
  • Students must have completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application
  • Candidates must be nationals or permanent resident of a Sub-Sahara African country
  • Applicants should generally be a staff member of a public university, b) candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, c) from the public sector Applicants must be nationals or permanent residents of a West African country (Inclusive Cameroon).

For PhD students: Applicants must have successfully completed a Master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify for the PhD program.

Application Process

  • How to apply: To participate, the applicants need to take admission to the university. After taking admission applicants need to fulfill an application form and email the filled application form with scanned copies of required documents to [email protected] or [email protected]
  • Admission Requirements: For being admitted, claimants are needed to meet the minimum entry requirements of the university.
  • Supporting Documents: For MA students, Documents to be submitted to RIPS: – Undergraduate Certificate – Undergraduate Transcript – One-page motivation statement – TOEFL score (70 and above) or IELTS score (6.0 and above) not more than two years at the time of application (if applying as national or permanent resident of Francophone/Lusophone country).
  • For PhD students, Documents to be submitted to RIPS: – Graduate and Undergraduate Certificates – Graduate and Undergraduate Transcripts – One-page motivation statement – Research proposal (this must include a research background, proposed research objective(s)/question(s) and methods sections) (3-page maximum, 1.5 line spaced minimum) – Master’s degree obtained with a Master’s dissertation/thesis written in English (if applying as national or permanent resident of Francophone/Lusophone country) OR TOEFL score (70 and above) or IELTS score (6.0 and above) not more than two years at the time of application (if applying as national or permanent resident of Francophone/Lusophone country)
  • Language Requirement: Claimants must have to provide evidence of English language proficiency.
  • Benefit: The DAAD support will cover tuition, stipends, and accommodation for one-year Master of Arts (MA) and four-year Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students.
