The WITS-TUB-UNILAG Programme is offering Masters Scholarships for studies at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand!
The scholarships apply to the 1 year full time degree of Master of Urban Studies in the field of Urban Management MUS (UM) at Wits University in Johannesburg, supported by the Wits-TUB-UNILAG Urban Lab programme.
University of the Witwatersrand Information
Founded in 1922, University of the Witwatersrand is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Johannesburg (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Gauteng. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Higher Education and Training, South Africa, University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 97 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 30-40% making this South African higher education organization a very selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.
Offered Benefits
The master‘s scholarship covers the duration of one academic year. Successful candidates will be expected to sign a contract stipulating the conditions of the scholarship. The scholarship includes:
- Full tuition fee,
- Monthly stipend (living expenses covering: subsistence expenses and accommodation expenses),
- Travel from home country/place of origin,
- Student medical aid (12 months).
Selected students will be required to be self-sufficient from February to April 2025, as their living allowance will be paid in the month of May. They will be responsible for organizing their own travel to Johannesburg, their accommodation in Johannesburg and other related costs.
Students applying for the scholarship are required to pay for their South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) fee costs should they have their highest qualification obtained outside of South Africa. SAQA fee costs will not be refunded (the SAQA process is explained below).

Required Documents:
- The Wits-TUB-Unilag Scholarship Application Form
- A cover letter explaining why you qualify for the scholarship. Additionally, this letter should speak to the qualification criteria, and should also provide a connection between the project themes and your envisaged research topic.
- A CV
- A copy of all degree certificates and official academic transcripts indicating marks for all degrees.
- A bachelor’s degree obtained outside of South Africa should be accompanied by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) certificate ranking the applicant’s bachelor’s degree at NQF level 8.
