With the motive of rewarding students’ talent in Japan, Kochi University of Technology is providing the CSC-KUT Scholarship Program  for the academic year 2023-2024.

This scholarship award is a joint initiative of the Kochi University of Technology and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) exclusively for students or staff from Chinese universities for a doctoral or PhD study at KUT. The scholarship winners will be given tuition fees and entrance fee exemption along with a scholarship of 50,000 yen/month as support for living expenses and 150,000 yen for travel expenses and initial living costs, depending on the program they choose to enrol in.

CSC-KUT Scholarships Program for International Students in Japan for PhD Established in 1997, Kochi University of Technology is a public higher education institution located in the medium-sized town of Kami (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Kochi. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, Kochi University of Technology is a coeducational higher education institution. Kochi University of Technology offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. This 22 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 20-30% making this Japanese higher education organization a very selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries:  Students from China can apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects:  PhD and doctoral study programs in the fields of Intelligent Mechanical Engineering, Electronic and Photonic Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Energy Engineering, Infrastructure Systems Engineering, Environmental and Mathematical Sciences, Chemistry, Life Science and Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Informatics at the Kochi University of Technology can be applied for. 
  • Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor’s and master’s degrees from reputable universities in China or other countries. 

Offered Benefits

The Kochi University of Technology will award the following scholarship benefits to the winning students: 

  • For PhD students – Exemption from the 30,000 yen entrance examination fee, the 300,000 yen enrolment fee, and 535,800 yen/year in tuition fees, a scholarship of 50,000 yen/month as support for living expenses, and 150,000 yen for travel expenses and initial living costs. 
  • For Doctoral students – Exemption from the 10,000 yen entrance examination fee, the 50,000 yen enrolment fee, and tuition fees.

Application Process

  • How to Apply:  Students interested to apply are required to complete the  pre-application online form  to be considered.
  • Supporting Documents:  The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Bachelor’s degree academic transcript (original) in English or Japanese
  • Master’s degree academic transcript (original) in English or Japanese
  • Master’s degree certificate (original) in English or Japanese
  • A copy of the intending applicant’s master’s thesis in English
  • Two signed recommendation letters in English or Japanese
  • Research Outline
  • Certificate of health (original) in English or Japanese issued within the past 6 months.
  • Certificate of English ability
  • Copies of your past publications
  • Certificate of Japanese ability
  • Copy of your passport ID pages
  • Admission Requirements:  The applicants must hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution or hold a degree from an accredited institution in China comparable to the master’s degree offered at KUT. 
  • Language Requirement:  The students must submit scores of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • TOEFL iBT – 72 to 94 
  • IELTS – 5.5 to 6.0 
  • CET-6 certificate
