The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is offering Connection Grants 2025 to support short-term knowledge mobilization activities, including events and outreach programs. These grants, valued at $7,000 to $50,000, encourage partnerships that enhance research impact and engagement.

To be eligible for the Connection Grants, applicants must be affiliated with an eligible Canadian postsecondary institution or not-for-profit organization. Projects must focus on knowledge mobilization rather than primary research and be completed within 12 months. Applicants must also secure at least 50% matching funds from sponsoring organizations.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) is a federal research funding agency that promotes and supports research and training in the social sciences and humanities. SSHRC funds projects that deepen understanding of people and society, foster collaboration between academia and other sectors, and help address complex global and societal challenges through research, knowledge exchange, and innovation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All (projects must be administered by eligible Canadian institutions)
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The grant supports events and outreach activities in the social sciences and humanities or interdisciplinary collaborations involving these fields.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Applicants must be affiliated with an eligible Canadian postsecondary institution or not-for-profit organization.

  • Projects must focus on knowledge mobilization through events or outreach activities, not primary research.

  • Proposed activities must take place within 12 months of the grant start date.

  • Applicants must demonstrate at least 50% matching funds (cash or in-kind) from sponsoring organizations.

  • Postdoctoral researchers must hold or secure affiliation with an eligible institution within three months of the grant start date.

  • Students cannot apply as applicants but may participate as collaborators.

    • Events: $7,000 to $25,000 (1 year)

    • Outreach Activities: $7,000 to $50,000 (1 year; higher amounts considered if justified)

  • Support for: Workshops, conferences, symposia, forums, media and outreach projects, documentaries, exhibitions, and more.

  • Additional Opportunities: Projects may align with SSHRC’s Research Data Management Capacity Building Initiative and Future Challenge Areas, promoting interdisciplinary and international collaboration.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the Connection Grant application form through SSHRC’s online system (Web CV). Applications must be submitted electronically by an authorized research grants officer or an eligible institutional representative. Deadlines for submission are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 3 (8 p.m. Eastern Time). Applications can be submitted by institutions or by individual applicants and teams (consisting of one  applicant or project director and one or more  co-applicants and/or  collaborators).
