The Cluster of Excellence aims to provide scholarships to master’s program students, offering them the opportunity to acquaint themselves with and actively participate in the outstanding research conducted within the cluster. Focused on exploring the dynamics of complex systems, the cluster bridges concepts and methodologies for studying controlled quantum systems, spanning from small scales to larger molecules, solid-state systems, and nano systems.

The research investigates the emergence of new functionalities with increasing system complexity and size, exploring dynamic generation possibilities. Collaborating international researchers from diverse disciplines, including physics, chemistry, and structural biology, unite their expertise to observe, comprehend, and control these processes in Hamburg.The University of Hamburg is a leading public research university with a rich history dating back to 1919. Cluster of Excellence Qualification Scholarships for Master’s Students, Germany Founded in 1919, Universität Hamburg (University of Hamburg) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Hamburg (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Behörde für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Gleichstellung, Hamburg (Authority for Science, Research and Equality, Hamburg), Universität Hamburg (UHH) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 35,000-39,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Universität Hamburg (UHH) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Master’s programs in Physics, Nanoscience, and Chemistry
  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled for a master’s degree at Universität Hamburg in physics, nanoscience, or chemistry. Good grades in a Bachelor’s degree program in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related subject are prerequisites. Enthusiasm for the research topics of the Cluster of Excellence is essential.

Offered Benefits

The scholarships start at the earliest on 1 April 2024 and are funded with €934 per month for a duration of 12 months. If further funding is needed after the 12-month scholarship, the Cluster can be contacted to explore further options. The projects will be undertaken at the Departments of Physics or Chemistry of Universität Hamburg or other relevant institutions. Scholarship holders are required to complete the relevant master study curricula and have the opportunity to engage in optional research projects as part of the Cluster of Excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter.”

  • Single-page summary of your Bachelor’s thesis and a link to a PDF of your thesis
