The CIHLMU – Center for International Health, LMU Munich is offering the CIH One Health Scholarships to support talented students for the 2025/2026 academic year.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be master’s or PhD students enrolled at LMU Munich or an OH-TARGET partner institution with a One Health-related research project. Only citizens of Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) are eligible. CIHLMU alumni (within 60 months of graduation) may also apply for travel support if actively participating in scientific events.

The Center for International Health (CIHLMU) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich is dedicated to improving global health through education, research, and capacity building. It focuses on training health professionals, especially from low- and middle-income countries, to address pressing health challenges worldwide. CIHLMU offers interdisciplinary programs and international collaborations, with a strong emphasis on the One Health approach, which links human, animal, and environmental health.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Applicants must be from countries listed on the DAC list of LMICs.

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship supports study programs or research projects relevant to the One Health concept. These may be undertaken within LMU Munich or OH-TARGET partner institutions.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program at LMU Munich or OH-TARGET partner institutions.

    • Have a One Health-relevant research project.

    • Be a citizen of a Low- or Middle-Income Country.

    • Submit complete documentation including a motivation letter, research description, and relevant certificates.

    • Alumni of CIHLMU programs (e.g. Ph.D. MR-IH, M.Sc. IH, MHPE, MOSH, M.Sc. ComMH) may apply within 60 months post-graduation for scientific travel.

    • Previously funded applicants must report research progress.

    • Events in the applicant’s home city are not eligible for funding.

Offered Benefits

  • Travel Scholarships: Cover flight or long-distance train expenses related to project activities, conferences, or academic modules (economy class only).

  • Accommodation & Subsistence Scholarships

    • Short-term stays (1–22 days): Hotel expenses including breakfast.

    • Medium-term stays (23 days–3 months): Monthly pre-payment for subsistence and accommodation.

  • Supervisor Visit Scholarships

    • Travel and accommodation costs for supervisors visiting student research sites (must be initiated by the student).

Application Process

  • Submit the application at least 8 weeks before the intended scholarship activity.

  • Apply online via the One Health Scholarships Application Portal.

  • Required documents (in English or German):

    • Passport scan

    • Proof of enrollment

    • Academic certificates

    • Motivation letter (approx. 500 words)

    • Details of research relevance to One Health and LMICs

    • Report on progress (for repeat applicants)

  • Application Deadlines:

    • 13 February 2025

    • 10 April 2025

    • 12 June 2025

    • 14 August 2025 (final deadline)
