The State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and China's Ministry of Education jointly initiate the Marine Scholarship of China for the purpose of providing ?nancial support to outstanding students from the coastal countries or regions around the South China Sea, the Paci?c and the Indian Oceans and African, American developing countries to study in China for a master's or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties, cultivating advanced professionals of the related fields for developing countries, enhancing international marine cooperation and exchange, and promoting the harmonious ocean development in the region and around the world. China Scholarship Council (CSC) is in charge of the admissions and routine management of the Scholarship.
The scholarship aims to enhance international marine cooperation, exchange and also promote harmonious ocean development around the world.
Xiamen University Information
Established in 1921, Xiamen University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Xiamen (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Fujian. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education of The People's Republic of China, Xiamen University (XMU) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 35,000-39,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Xiamen University (XMU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the 2022/23 Marine Scholarships for International Students, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
- Must apply for the postgraduate degree program of ocean-related specialties. Applicants will be given priority if they are currently engaged in oceanographic and relevant sectors.
- Master’s degree applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or above and be under the age of 40.
- Doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree or above and be under the age of 45.

Application for the Scholarships will be considered only after the applicant has been admitted to Xiamen University.
- Applicants shall complete online application at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn (Program Category: Type B; Agency No. of XMU: 10384) and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarships. The Scholarships Application Form should be completed in Chinese or English and signed by the applicant.
- Applicants shall complete another online application at http://application.xmu.edu.cn and upload the scan copy of Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarships. There is no need to mail paper application materials.
