The University Childcare Fund, provided by the Scottish government, can mainly assist eligible student parents with the cost of formal registered childcare costs during term-time. Limited support may be available during the summer e.g. for those needing to re-sit exams or attend academically required placements.
Eligibility Criteria
Full time UK Undergraduate students who are eligible for a UK student loan (not those on nursing, midwifery and social care courses funded by a non-means tested bursary) who are parents and need to use registered childcare to enable them to attend their course are likely to be eligible to apply to the University Childcare Fund.
Full time UK Postgraduate Students who have been awarded the Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan by SAAS may be eligible to apply to the University Childcare Fund for help towards the cost of essential registered childcare to enable them to attend their course.
Those UK registered postgraduate students who aren’t eligible to apply directly to the Childcare Fund may be eligible to apply instead to the University Discretionary Fund.
UK Part time students may be eligible to apply for help with childcare costs from the University Descretionary Fund.
Lone Parents – If you are a full time undergraduate student who is eligible for a Lone Parent Grant as well as your UK student loan/grant/bursary, you could be eligible for the Lone Parent childcare Grant from Edinburgh Napier University. You should apply to the University Childcare Fund in the normal way and we will be able to see from your award notice that you have been awarded the Lone Parent Grant in addition to your student loan. We will then automatically consider you for an award of the Lone Parent Childcare Grant. There is no need to apply separately.
Offered Benefits
Successful applicants may expect to receive a contribution of up to 100% of their monthly childcare costs (after deduction of available funding from all other sources). The maximum amount payable in any one academic year is £6,000. Exceptional circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.
