CEU Doctoral Scholarship in Hungary for PhD Founded in 1991, Közép-Európai Egyetem (Central European University) is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Budapest (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Magyar Felsooktatási Akkreditációs Bizottság (Hungarian Accreditation Committee), Közép-Európai Egyetem (CEU) is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 1,000-1,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Közép-Európai Egyetem (CEU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Candidates from all nationalities are welcome.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship program will be awarded for Ph.D. in any subject offered by the university.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a master’s degree or equivalent in a related field from a recognized university or higher education or provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a degree before enrolling in a CEU doctoral course of study. Those students holding a five-year master’s degree are not required to have a bachelor’s.
  • In exceptional cases, the Department of Cognitive Science will also consider candidates who only hold a bachelor’s degree, provided it is in a discipline closely associated with cognitive science.
  • Students enrolled in a doctoral program at CEU must not be simultaneously enrolled in other higher education institutions. They must sign a declaration to this effect at the beginning of their studies at CEU.

Offered Benefits

The Central European University will provide a stipend of 1,680 EUR/per month for housing and living expenses.

  • Doctoral students will receive a monthly stipend to support their housing and living expenses. Each student is responsible for securing accommodation for themselves.
  • The CEU Doctoral Scholarship is awarded for 48 months in total.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: The mode of application is online, and applicants need to submit an online form through the given link: Completed CEU Application Form.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must submit all the following documents to apply to CEU – Academic Writing Submission(s), Letters of Recommendation, Academic Records, Curriculum Vitae or Resume, Proof of English Proficiency, Standard Test Scores (GRE, GMAT, etc.)
  • Admission Requirements: Candidates must submit a doctoral program application at the university. Then, they will automatically consider the CEU Doctoral Scholarship offer.
  • Language Requirement: All applications must be complete with relevant standard test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.). Applicants must demonstrate ability in English by submitting standardized English language test scores. Applicants whose first language is English are generally exempt from this requirement.
