Carlo Schmid Program for Internships in International Organizations and EU Institutions Established in 1925, University of Miami is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Coral Gables (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Florida.   • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • German students and graduates of all scientific disciplines.
  • Applicants should already have dealt with international issues during their studies.
  • Applicants must be in at least the third semester of a bachelor’s or examination course.
  • Applicants with a university degree who have already passed the state examination must not have passed the examination more than two years ago (periods of basic military service, community service, or child-rearing periods are taken into account).
  • An excellent grade point average is expected. The average grade of the most recently passed examination (e.g. intermediate examination, bachelor’s/master’s degree, exam) or the semester performance completed to date must not be worse than 2.5. If the exam was taken abroad, the grade should correspond to the above classifications.
  • For medical students, the first section of the medical examination must be passed.

Two program lines are offered, whereby an application is only possible in one of the two program lines:

  • Program line A: Applications for a maximum of four full-time internships in EU institutions, in the UN system, in the Bretton Woods organizations, in NATO, OECD, and approved non-governmental organizations.
  • Program line B: Interested parties can apply for one or two of the advertised internship offers. The application must target the specific requirement and task profile of the advertised internship.

The scholarship includes the following benefits:

  • A monthly scholarship rate, determined according to the host country
  • Travel allowance depending on the host country
  • Benefits for health, accident, and personal liability insurance
  • In addition, applicants can apply for additional benefits under certain conditions: Family benefits for accompanying spouses or life partners and/or children.

  • How to Apply: Applicants must use an online application system. Applicants must select their status and destination country to be able to submit an application.
  • Supporting Documents: For a complete application, the following documents must be submitted:
  • Tabular CV (English and German)
  • Letter of motivation (English and German)
  • Publication list (English)
  • Final/intermediate certificates
  • Overview of the academic achievements/transcript of records from the bachelor’s and master’s programs in English
  • Final/intermediate certificates (in the existing language)
  • Proof of language proficiency in English (C1, you can find accepted formats in the Important Information)
  • Mandatory document for proof of English language proficiency
  • If applicable, proof of language proficiency in a second foreign language
  • Certificates of internships/part-time jobs (desirable)
  • Admission Requirements: Evidence of other language skills is optional unless the respective international organization (this only applies to program line B!) requires knowledge of other languages in the job description.
  • Language Requirement: Excellent knowledge of English must correspond to proficiency level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and must be demonstrated using a format specified in the important information.
