Capilano Excellence Scholarships (CAPX) are the premier entrance scholarships at Capilano University. Up to 10 of these scholarships are offered each year and are awarded to both domestic and international high school graduates who have demonstrated excellence in academics and shown leadership in their school and community.
Established in 1968, Capilano University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of North Vancouver (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), British Columbia. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Squamish, Sechelt. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training, British Columbia, Capilano University is a medium-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 6,000-6,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Capilano University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees in several areas of study. The scholarships are valued at up to $56,000 and are in the form of a domestic tuition and tuition surcharge fee waiver for a full academic year of studies (up to $14,000 per year) and are renewable for up to three additional academic years (total of eight terms).

CAPX Essay Topic
What is the best teaching and learning experience you have had and why was it so effective from your perspective? What was a teaching and learning experience that was challenging for you, and how did you handle the situation?
Your essay should be typed and approximately 750-1500 words in length.
Indicate CAPX Essay on your essay and ensure you include your full name, Capilano University student ID, and the essay topic at the top of the first page.
Be sure to edit and proofread your work for content, sentence structure, grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.
CAPX Reference Letters
Two letters of reference are required: 1.
One letter of reference from a member of your high school (teacher, coach, etc.)
One letter of reference from an individual that has had direct involvement in some aspect of overseeing your community involvement and/or leadership activities (no family members).
Your reference letters should mention your full name, include the date they were written, and the contact information for the referee. Label the letters as CAPX Reference Letters and submit them as part of your supporting document package.
These letters do not need to be submitted to us directly from your referees.
Leadership Skills and Community and Campus Engagement Worksheet
Your worksheet should illustrate the activities/volunteering you regularly participate in that demonstrate your leadership skills and engagement within your community and school.
Be sure to include the date you started (and ended, if applicable) of each activity and the total number of hours that you dedicated to each activity between the start and end date. Use the space provided and complete the worksheet electronically.
Handwriting or any modification to the worksheet is not permitted. Download the worksheet from our Entrance Awards webpage. Note: When you submit your completed worksheet, you are also put into the running for the “Capilano University Community Leadership Award (CCLA).”
To be considered for this entrance award, you do not need to submit a separate Leadership Skills and Community and Campus Engagement Worksheet. If you are a high school applicant, please also submit a High School Nomination Form to be eligible for the CCLA.
