Canada Graduate Research Scholarships for PhD

Eligibility Criteria

• Eligible Countries:

  • Canadian citizens

  • Permanent residents of Canada

  • International students (must be enrolled in a Canadian doctoral program at time of application)

• Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship is open to any discipline funded by CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.

• Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution by Fall 2025 (for international applicants)

  • Submit a complete application by the internal institutional deadline (UBC: September 9, 2025, 12:00 PM PT)

  • Choose the appropriate granting agency based on their research area (CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC)

  • Submit official, up-to-date transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended

  • Meet the detailed eligibility conditions outlined on the CGRS D program page

Offered Benefits

Application Process

3. Institutional Application: If applying through UBC, complete the application by September 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM PT.

4. Prepare Documents: Include official transcripts, reference letters, and any additional materials required.

5. Apply Online: Use the appropriate portal linked to your granting agency.

6. Follow Up: Ensure your referees submit their assessments and your transcripts are complete and valid.
