To be eligible for the Cadieux-Léger Fellowship, applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program as full-time students in a recognized post-secondary institution, specializing in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, or a related field.   • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Be enrolled in a doctoral program as a full-time student in a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, or a related program.
    • Have successfully attained candidacy status at the time of application, including having completed all coursework and examination requirements, in addition to an approved dissertation proposal.
    • Be recognized as having full-time student status by the academic institution in which they are presently enrolled and maintain this status during the whole fellowship period.
    • Be available for a period of up to twelve months between September 2024 and September 2025.
    • Confirm to the eligibility criteria of the Research Affiliate Program.
    • Shortlisted candidates will be required to obtain Secret security clearance to finalize the selection procedure.

Offered Benefits

The fellowship provides a bursary of up to $48,000 contingent on the duration of the fellowship. The Fellow will engage in research, writing papers or briefs, and participating in the policy development process, including networking with internal and external experts and contributing to policy working groups and other initiatives.

  • A cover letter (1,000 words) explaining how the applicant’s knowledge and experience align with Global Affairs Canada’s mandate.

  • A 1,000-word research proposal on a significant foreign policy issue linked to the Open Insights Hub’s areas of focus, GAC’s mandate, and its implications for Canada.
  • A sample paper or publication.
  • Proof of enrollment in a recognized academic institution at the Ph.D. level for the fellowship period.
