Are you unable to get an education due to financial barriers in the state of Florida? Now you can get it over with the future. Apply for the Bright Futures program and take a step toward your bright career.

The Bright Futures programs are available in four types of awards as Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS), Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS), Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC), and Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV).

Funded by the Florida Lottery at Florida Department of Education, the programs are open to Florida residents who attend a high school or an eligible postsecondary institution in Florida.

Application Deadline: August 31.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must meet all the following to be eligible:

  • Evaluated by Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) as meeting the initial eligibility requirements
  • Graduated with a standard high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, as determined by the student’s postsecondary institution.
  • Enrol as a degree- or certificate-seeking student at a Florida institution in at least 6 non-remedial semester credit hours
  • Must have at least one parent who is a Florida resident and is: A) serving active duty in the military or B) on public service assignment away from Florida during the student’s last year of high school.
  • Non-Traditional Students (home-educated, GED, mid-year, out-of-state) are also eligible to apply
  • For Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS): Complete the 16 college-preparatory courses required for admission to a state university and complete 100 service hours. Achieve the necessarily combined ACT® or composite SAT® score: 2019/20 – 29/1290 and 2020/21 – 29/1330
  • Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS): Complete the 16 college-preparatory courses required for admission to a state university and complete 75 service hours.
  • For Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV): Must take at least 3 full credits in a single Career and Technical Education program and Complete 30 service hours. Achieve the required combined ACT® or composite SAT® score: 2019/20 – 26/1170 and 2020/21 – 25/1210
  • For Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC): Applicants must earn a minimum of 5 postsecondary credit hours through CAPE industry certifications that articulate for college credit, and Complete at least 30 service hours.
  • GPA Requirements:
  • 5 Minimum Cumulative GPA (unrounded and unweighted) required for Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)
  • 0 Minimum Cumulative GPA (unrounded and unweighted) required for Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)
  • For Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV): Minimum 3.0 weighted GPA in the non-elective high school courses and 3.5 unweighted GPA in the career education courses
  • Students must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA (unrounded and unweighted) for Gold Seal CAPE (GSC) scholarships

Offered Benefits

  • The program covered only 20% of Florida high school graduates and paid an average of $2,000 per year.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Students must complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) to OSFA through create a student account.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must submit an official high school transcript, ACT®/SAT® test scores, documentation for OOS assignment, Proof of Dependency, and Documentation of Service Hours. An official transcript may email to [email protected] (If the student’s high school can send secure electronic transcripts or if the high school contracts with a third-party transcript service).
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants are required to complete the FFAA no later than August 31 after high school graduation or during the last year in high school.
  • Note: GED or Out-of-State Applicant may send documents via mail or electronically upload them to the Florida Department of Education,
