Blacks at Microsoft Scholarships for African Descendants, USA

Microsoft is a tech company that revolutionized computer systems and it’s owned by billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates. Every year, they invite applications for Blacks at Microsoft scholarships.

The scholarship is open to high-school seniors of African descent for the 2022 session. African Americans and Africans are eligible for this award.

The scholarship is a company-sponsored employee network dedicated to supporting the continued growth and development of black employees at Microsoft Corporation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this award, applicants must meet certain conditions and they include;

  • Must be high-school seniors of African descent (African Americans & Africans)
  • The applicant must have plans to attend a four-year college or university in the fall of the year following high-school graduation.
  • Plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or a business-related program, ( Finance, Business Administration, or marketing)
  • Applicant must show their passion for technology
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Require financial assistance to attend college.

Offered Benefits

  • The Blacks at Microsoft - BAM - scholarship initiative will be giving beneficiaries $5,000 each in this year’s award. It will be awarded to school seniors who have a passion for tech or wishes to pursue a tech-related career.
  • The award is renewable for a period of four years, and winners are eligible for the same amount of money ($5000). They must however continue to meet certain criteria.
  • To compensate others that applied for it, runners-up will be awarded a one-time $2,500 stipend based on need.

Application Process

To apply for this program, print and fill out the application. Enclose it in an envelope with the following items.

#1. Two letters of recommendation.

One of the letters must be from a faculty or staff member of your school. The letters must be original and not a copy of college recommendation letters. (Letters must have letterhead)

#2. Resume. The Resume must carry the information below

  • Extracurricular activities applicants have engaged in, either in school or in their community.
  • Honors and awards that you have received (Tech-related awards would be a plus.)
  • Work experience
  • A picture of yourself
  • A Transcript. This must include an official “sealed” copy of your current academic transcript. (Official or unofficial copies will be accepted)

#3. Two Essays

In not more than 500 words, describe how you plan to engage in the tech industry in your future career. (If you have done exemplary using technology, don’t be afraid to blow your trumpet)

The second essay should be not more than 250 words and should show your financial need fr the scholarship.
