Black Feather Fund Entrance Scholarship at NVIT 2025 Established in 1983, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the small town of Merritt (population range of 2,500-9,999 inhabitants), British Columbia. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Burnaby. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training, British Columbia, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 500-999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

New Applicants must:

  • Be Indigenous (proof required via status card, Métis card, or official letter)

  • Be enrolled full-time in an eligible post-secondary NVIT program (minimum 80% course load)

  • Have completed secondary school with a minimum 65% (C+) GPA over the last 2 years

  • Show extracurricular involvement in both school and community

  • Submit a 500-word essay on their career plans

Renewal Applicants must:

  • Have received the scholarship the previous year

  • Be enrolled full-time at NVIT (minimum 80% course load)

  • Have a minimum 65% GPA from their most recent year at NVIT

Offered Benefits

  • $1,000 CAD awarded to two (2) incoming Indigenous students

  • Scholarship is renewable for an additional $1,000 in the second year, contingent on academic performance

Application Process

Required Documents:

For New Applicants:

  • Completed application form

  • Proof of Indigenous ancestry

  • Official secondary school transcripts (last 2 years)

  • Two reference letters:

    • One from a school instructor

    • One from a community member

  • A 500-word typed essay titled “Future Career Plan”

  • NVIT registration statement showing full-time enrollment

For Renewal Applicants:

  • Completed application form

  • NVIT transcript showing 65%+ GPA

  • Updated NVIT registration statement

  • Download and fill out the scholarship application form
  • Submit required documents via email to: ?
    • Or deliver original physical copies to the front desk of either NVIT campus (Merritt or Burnaby)
