Bishop``s University Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE) 2025 Established in 1843, Bishop's University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the rural setting of the large town of Sherbrooke (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Quebec. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur, Québec (Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Quebec), Bishop's University (BU) is a small (uniRank enrollment range: 2,000-2,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Bishop's University (BU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. This 176 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this Canadian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

International candidates who have not applied for Canadian citizenship or permanent residence.

Master’s: Candidates cannot have completed more than three full-time terms (one year) in their master’s program as of May 1 following the application deadline. One can apply before starting the program.

Doctorate: Candidates cannot have completed more than nine full-time terms (three years) in their PhD program as of May 1 following the application deadline. One can apply before starting the program.

Postdoctoral: Candidates must have obtained their PhD no more than two years before the competition and their postdoctoral research must be conducted in an institution other than the one that granted the doctoral degree.

Short-term research: Candidates must have obtained their PhD no more than five years before the deadline for the competition. It is intended for?technical and university students or researchers.

The short-term research or professional development must be conducted in an institution other than the one at which you were enrolled at the time of application.

Offered Benefits

Master’s: $20,000 per year, up to two years.

Doctoral: $25,000 per year, up to three years.

Postdoctoral: $35,000 for one year.

Short-term research: $3,000 per month, up to four months.

Application Process

Those interested in applying to any of these competitions will need to submit the following to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies at   by July 31, 2024.

  • Candidate’s CV
  • Letter of intent (maximum of two pages which must include:
    • Statement of support from the supervisor
  • Two letters of references
  • Copy of all university transcripts
  • Research statement outlining the proposed research at Bishop’s (maximum of four pages)
