The Barbados Institute of Architects (BIA) is pleased to announce the University Student Scholarship for Architectural Studies. This initiative is designed to support Barbadian students with a strong academic foundation and a passion for architecture, offering them the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies at the Caribbean School of Architecture, University of Technology, Jamaica.

The scholarship is open to citizens of Barbados who have been accepted to, or are currently enrolled in, the Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies program at the University of Technology, Jamaica. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support of up to BDS $40,000, spread over the duration of the program, to deserving students.

Barbados Institute of Architects Scholarships for Bachelor Established in 1958, University of Technology, Jamaica is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Kingston (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Saint Andrew. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Jamaica, University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) is a medium-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 8,000-8,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. This 61 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Barbados

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Scholarship is awarded for the Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies at the University of Technology, Jamaica.

  • Admissible Criteria:

    • Must be a citizen of Barbados.

    • Must provide proof of acceptance or current enrolment in the program for September 2025 or January 2026 entry.

    • Must maintain good academic standing (proof of passing each academic year required).

    • Must commit to 300 hours of approved volunteer work in Barbados within 4 years.

    • Must be or become a Student Member of the Barbados Institute of Architects (BIA).

    • Must submit all required application materials including essay, portfolio, references, and proof of citizenship.

  • Tuition fees will be paid directly to the Caribbean School of Architecture, University of Technology, Jamaica.

Application Process

Applicants must submit the following via email to by 15th August 2025:

  • Application letter with personal details (name, address, email, phone number)

  • One (1) passport-sized photograph

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation or names of two (2) references

  • Certified proof of Barbados citizenship (passport copy)

  • Proof of acceptance or enrolment in the program

  • A 1,000-word essay explaining why they should receive the scholarship

  • A portfolio (A4 or A3, maximum 10 pages of design projects, sketches, or drawings)

Additional Steps:

  • Select applicants may be required to attend an interview on 20th August 2025.

  • Results will be announced by 25th August 2025.
