The F.R.S.-FNRS invites applications for the prestigious Baillet Latour Biomedical Award 2025. This award offers €1,000,000 over 5 years to early-career independent investigators of any nationality to conduct biomedical research in Belgium, specifically on “Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Systems”.

To be eligible for the Baillet Latour Biomedical Award 2025, applicants must be early-career independent investigators who have obtained their PhD no more than 12 years prior to the application deadline of September 16, 2012. Extensions are allowed for documented career breaks due to maternity/paternity leave, national service, long-term illness, or MD-PhD specialty training.The Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – FNRS (F.R.S.-FNRS) is a key organization in Belgium dedicated to promoting and supporting scientific research. It operates by providing funding for research projects, grants, and awards to researchers and institutions across various scientific disciplines. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in the subject of “Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Systems”
  • Admissible Criteria:
  • The Principal Investigator (PI) must hold a PhD degree awarded no more than 12 years prior to the application deadline (September 16th, 2012).
  • Extensions for career breaks are possible for maternity/paternity leave, national service, long-term illness, or MD-PhD specialty training.
  • The PI must be affiliated with a Belgian university, university hospital, or eligible research institute.
  • Evidence of affiliation to the Host Institution must be provided until at least April 30th, 2030.

Offered Benefits

  • The award amounts to €1,000,000 over 5 years.
  • An initial instalment of €400,000 will be provided at the start.
  • Additional instalments of €200,000 each will be provided at the beginning of years 3, 4, and 5, subject to positive evaluations.
