Arts and Humanities Research Council WRoCAH Open Competition, UK for PhD Established in 1963, The University of York is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of York (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Yorkshire and the Humber. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, The University of York is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. The University of York offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: UK citizens and international students can both apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can apply for PhD projects within the AHRC remit of Histories, Cultures, Heritage, Creative and Performing Arts, and Languages and Literature at York.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must either be a part-time or full-time student.

The University of York will select the students who will be provided a £15,609 stipend and a tuition fee for the PhD study undertaken.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Admission applications must be made via the university application portal. After submitting the admission applications, students will receive a 9-digit ID number, using which they can make an application for the studentship.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Academic transcripts
  • Two references
  • Research proposal
  • Samples of written work
  • Personal statement
  • CV
  • Evidence of financial support
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must have a first or 2:1 honors degree or equivalent or a Masters-level qualification.
  • Language Requirement: The students must submit scores of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic and Indicator)
  • PTE Academic
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • Cambridge Proficiency (CPE)
  • TOEFL IBT (internet-based and special home edition) (TOEFL MyBest score is not acceptable for meeting the English language requirement)
