Arts and Humanities Research Council WRoCAH Open Competition, UK for PhD Established in 1963, The University of York is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of York (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Yorkshire and the Humber. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, The University of York is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. The University of York offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. This 56 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: UK citizens and international students can both apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can apply for PhD projects within the AHRC remit of Histories, Cultures, Heritage, Creative and Performing Arts, and Languages and Literature at York.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must either be a part-time or full-time student.

The University of York will select the students who will be provided a £15,609 stipend and a tuition fee for the PhD study undertaken.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Admission applications must be made via the university application portal. After submitting the admission applications, students will receive a 9-digit ID number, using which they can make an application for the studentship.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Academic transcripts
  • Two references
  • Research proposal
  • Samples of written work
  • Personal statement
  • CV
  • Evidence of financial support
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must have a first or 2:1 honors degree or equivalent or a Masters-level qualification.
  • Language Requirement: The students must submit scores of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic and Indicator)
  • PTE Academic
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • Cambridge Proficiency (CPE)
  • TOEFL IBT (internet-based and special home edition) (TOEFL MyBest score is not acceptable for meeting the English language requirement)
