The University of Sydney’s Faculty of Science is pleased to announce the ARC Postgraduate Research Scholarship for the academic session 2025/2026. The scholarship program provides an annual stipend of AUD $41,753 and possible tuition fee coverage for eligible students.

The study award is open to domestic and international candidates must hold (or secure) an unconditional offer of admission in a Master by Research or PhD program within the Faculty, conduct research aligned with ARC-funded projects under the supervision of ARC grant holders, and possess at least an Honours (First or Second Upper) or a Master’s degree.

ARC Postgraduate Research Scholarships in Australia for PhD Established in 1850, The University of Sydney is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Sydney (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), New South Wales. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a Master by Research or PhD program offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney, specifically aligned with ARC-funded projects.
  • Admissible Criteria:
    1. Applicants must either have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in a Master by Research or PhD within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
    2. Research must be related to the ARC projects for which the student has applied, and must be conducted under the supervision of researchers holding the ARC grant that funds the project.
    3. Applicants must hold at least an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or a Master’s degree (or equivalent).
    4. Those without an unconditional offer of admission may apply, but no scholarship offer will be finalized until an unconditional offer of admission is granted.

Offered Benefits

  1. Stipend: An annual stipend equivalent to the University of Sydney’s RTP stipend rate (currently AUD $41,753 p.a.) for up to:
    • 1.5 years for Master by Research recipients (full-time equivalent)
    • 3 years for PhD recipients, with a possible 6-month extension (full-time equivalent)
  2. Tuition Fees: Academic tuition fee coverage for the successful international recipient:
    • Up to 6 research periods for a Master by Research recipient (full-time equivalent)
    • Up to 12 research periods for a PhD recipient, with a possible 2 research period extension (full-time equivalent)

Application Process

  1. Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the admission requirements for a Master by Research or PhD in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
  2. Obtain an Unconditional Offer (or be Enrolled): Secure an unconditional offer of admission or be enrolled in a relevant program.
  3. Submit Application: Complete the online application form for the scholarship (available via the University of Sydney’s scholarships portal). You must clearly indicate the ARC-funded project under which you plan to undertake your research.
  4. Supporting Documents: Provide academic transcripts, CV, proof of enrollment or admission, research proposal outlining how your project aligns with the ARC grant, and any other documents requested by the University.
