New Zealand citizens, permanent residents and international who are prospective and current learners intending to enrol either full-time or part-time in any Level 3 and above the programme of study offered by Ara are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The applicants must exhibit all-around ability and academic excellence to be considered. The scholarship award is worth $4,000, but it may vary on full/part-time enrolment.

The institute is a result of a merger between Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology and Aoraki Polytechnic that took place in 2016. Specializing in applied tertiary training, Ara ranks 18th nationwide and 258th in the QS World.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries:  Students from New Zealand, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, Fiji, Rotuma, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Palau, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Wallis and Futuna, Hawaii, French Polynesia, Nauru and Rapanui (Easter Island) are eligible to apply. 
  • Eligible Course or Subjects:  Candidates can apply for a degree programme at Ara Institute of Canterbury. 
  • Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must directly apply to Ara. 
  • The applicants can be full-time/part-time current/new students at Ara. 
  • The applicants can be NZ citizens, permanent residents, and international students. 

Offered Benefits

Ara Institute of Canterbury will be awarding the selected candidates a scholarship award valued at $4,000 for each full-time student enrolment. However, part-time students may be awarded a proportion of the $4,000 equal to the level of their part-time enrolment.

  • How to Apply:  Domestic  and  international  students must submit a separate admission application form. Scholarship application along with supporting documents must be submitted via mail to  . 
  • Supporting Documents:  The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Scholarship application form
  • Personal statement 
  • Two referees 
  • Admission Requirements:  The applicants must meet the entry requirements for their chosen programme at the time of commencement of study at Ara. 
  • Language Requirement:  The students must meet the  English language proficiency requirements  of the university. TOEFL, IELTS, and many more test results are accepted at Ara.
