The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is inviting applications for the Alliance International Catalyst Quantum Grants, providing up to $25,000 for one year to help Canadian researchers build and strengthen international academic collaborations in quantum science and technology.

To be eligible for the grants, applicants must be Canadian university researchers holding an active NSERC peer-reviewed grant. They must collaborate with international academic partners from accredited institutions outside G7 countries. The proposed research should align with Canada’s National Quantum Strategy and focus on advancing quantum technologies.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is a federal agency that supports scientific research and innovation across Canada. It funds researchers, universities, and industry collaborations in the natural sciences and engineering fields to advance knowledge, drive technological progress, and strengthen Canada’s global competitiveness.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All countries except G7 member countries (France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States).
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The grant supports research in the following areas of quantum technologies:
  • Quantum algorithms and encryption (including post-quantum cryptography)

  • Quantum communications

  • Quantum computing

  • Quantum materials

  • Quantum sensing

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Must be a Canadian university researcher holding an active, peer-reviewed NSERC grant.

  • Must collaborate with an international academic partner (assistant, associate, or full professor) from an accredited postsecondary institution outside G7 countries.

  • Collaborations must be academic-to-academic (no non-academic partners permitted).

  • The proposed research must align with one or more missions of Canada’s National Quantum Strategy.

  • Applicants may submit only one application as either applicant or co-applicant for this program.

Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted online via the NSERC system by January 8, 2026 (8:00 pm ET).

  • Log in to NSERC’s online system and create a new Form 101 under Research Partnerships Programs ? Alliance Grants ? International – Catalyst – Quantum.

  • Submit the following documents:

    • Completed Form 101 application and proposal template

    • Attestation forms for all named researchers (as per STRAC Policy)

    • Budget and justification for NSERC-requested funds

    • Form 100A (Personal Data Form with CCV) for applicant and co-applicants

    • Two-page biosketch for each international collaborator

  • All applications must comply with the Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC Policy).

  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
