Airtel Africa Foundation (the “Foundation”) is the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa plc, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa. Our mission is to empower Africa through financial inclusion, education, environmental protection and digital inclusion.
The foundation launched the “Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship” program to support young Africans from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education in STEM, as part of the Foundation’s broader goal of increasing the proportion of African youth with advanced Tech skills and shaping the next generation of tech leaders from the continent. The Foundation is partnering with selected Universities to support meritorious African students who secure admission for a tech-related undergraduate program.
The program will be open to students of the following seven public universities in Nigeria:
- University of Lagos (UNILAG)
- University of Nigeria (UNN)
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)
- University of Benin (UNIBEN)
- Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)
- University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
- Tai Solarin University of Education (TASEUD)
Tai Solarin University of Education Information
Founded in 2005, Tai Solarin University of Education is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Ijebu-Ode (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Ogun. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Ijagun, Ososa. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the National Universities Commission, Nigeria, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. This 14 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 40-50% making this Nigerian higher education organization a averagely selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for this Fellowship are as follows:
- The Fellowship will only apply to students admitted into any one of the 7 participating public universities.
- The Foundation will consider gender diversity as part of the selection criteria.
- The candidate shall not be a recipient of any other fellowship/scholarship/grants for the same purposes as being supported by Airtel Africa Foundation.
- Only new entrants shall be eligible. (100 level)
- The Candidate must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the program
- Scored a minimum of 230 in JAMB
- Possess 5 credits, including English and mathematics, in one sitting.
- Applicants must have JAMB results and an admission letter, a School ID card & WAEC certificate/ result to be shortlisted

Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Technology, Data Science, Software engineering, Library and Information Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Telecommunication Engineering, and other tech or ICT-related fields.
