African Trust Infrastructures International Postdoctoral Fellowships in South Africa Founded in 1922, University of the Witwatersrand is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Johannesburg (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Gauteng. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries:  South African and other overseas candidates can apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects:  Postdoctoral research study in the Humanities and Social Sciences on the African continent can be undertaken at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research. 
  • Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • The applicants must be outstanding students of a relevant and appropriate discipline. 

Offered Benefits

The three fellows selected to be appointed at WISER will be receiving funding for two years on the university’s standard post-doctoral package with, maybe, an additional allowance for travel and research expenses. 

Application Process

  • How to Apply:  Postdoctoral admission application must be made by logging on to the  web portal . Interested students are required to submit a separate  fellowship application form .
  • Supporting Documents:  The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
  • Complete set of course transcripts for each degree
  • Curriculum Vitae, including the names and contact details of three academic referees.
  • A writing sample of your choice
  • A one-page description of your interest in this subject
  • Admission Requirements:  The applicants will be expected to hold at least a master’s degree qualification in a relevant discipline. However, a PhD degree qualification is more likely. 
  • Language Requirement:  The students must submit scores of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • IELTS – 7.0
  • CAE – 185
