Applications are now open for the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) Postgraduate Scholarships in New Zealand. These scholarships support Master’s students conducting research aligned with ACC’s priorities in injury prevention, recovery, and accessibility. Successful applicants will receive up to NZ$15,000 per year.

The scholarship is open to students enrolled in, or eligible to enrol in, a full-time or part-time master’s degree at a New Zealand university or NZQA-accredited tertiary institution. Applicants’ research must include a minimum 90-credit thesis and focus on ACC’s priorities, such as injury prevention, recovery, accessibility, or safety for high-risk groups.

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is a New Zealand government agency established in 1974 to provide comprehensive, no-fault personal injury cover for all residents and visitors in Aotearoa New Zealand. ACC plays a vital role in preventing injuries, supporting recovery, and helping people return to work and everyday life after an accident. It also funds research and initiatives aimed at improving injury prevention, accessibility, and long-term health outcomes across the country.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for postgraduate research programs offered by any Aotearoa New Zealand university or NZQA-accredited tertiary institution.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be enrolled in, or eligible to enrol in, a full-time or part-time Master’s degree at a recognized Aotearoa New Zealand university or tertiary institution.

  • Have a research component that commenced in the second half of 2025 or will commence in 2026.

  • Undertake a program that includes a minimum thesis component of 90 credits.

  • Have a research thesis focused on one or more of ACC’s research priorities, including:

    • Achieving the dual goals in ACC’s 10-year strategy (Huakina Te R?).

    • Improving recovery and preventing reinjury.

    • Enhancing access to the Accident Compensation Scheme.

    • Promoting injury safety for high-risk groups.

Offered Benefits

  • Full-time students will receive NZ$15,000 per year.

  • Part-time students will receive NZ$7,500 per year.

  • Up to four scholarships are available annually.

  • Provides funding support for research that informs injury prevention, recovery, and accessibility strategies in New Zealand.
