Benefits of University of Sheffield Masters Scholarship

There are three scholarships available in 2025 to academically strong individuals from developing countries. Each scholarship offers the following:

  • A full tuition fee waiver
  • A £12,500 maintenance stipend 

Requirements for University of Sheffield Masters Scholarship

  1. To be eligible to apply, you must hold an offer for one of the following courses to study at the University of Sheffield in the 2025-26 academic year:
    • International Development MA
    • Environmental Change and International Development MSc
    • International Development (Masters in Public Health) MPH
    • International Law and Global Justice LLM (a selected pathway of the Sheffield LLM course)
    • International Political Economy MA
    • Global Journalism MA
    • International Public and Political Communication MA
  2. You must be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
  3. You must not already hold a qualification that is of an equivalent or higher level to the course you are applying for.
  4. You must not have previously studied outside of your country of residence.
  5. You must be self-funded to receive this award, ie not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity or any similar organisation.
  6. This scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other funding awards, either from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
  7. Your mode of attendance must be full-time.
  8. You must begin your studies at the University of Sheffield in 2025. This scholarship cannot be deferred.
  9. Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully meeting any condition(s) attached to your offer before the deadline provided by the Admissions Service.
  10. Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully receiving a visa to study at the University in September 2025.
  11. You must be permanently domiciled in one of the countries or territories listed below. These are countries that are classified as low or lower middle income countries by the World Bank in 2025:

Selection Process

This is a competitive process and not all applications will be successful. A panel of senior members of staff will select the strongest applications and will be looking to see that applicants have:

  • Provided a clear rationale for applying for a postgraduate course at the University of Sheffield;
  • Outlined examples of work experience in the field of International Development;
  • Clearly articulated future ambitions; these goals relate to the postgraduate degree you have applied for, and how your learning may benefit others.

  • To access the application form you will need to hold an offer for one of the postgraduate courses (listed above) starting at the University in September 2025. It may take up to 48 hours to be able to access the form after you have received your offer.
  • All eligible applicants who apply before the deadline will be contacted regarding the outcome of their application before Friday 18 July

2025 Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Masters Scholarships at University of Sheffield Founded in 1905, The University of Sheffield is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Sheffield (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Yorkshire and the Humber. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, The University of Sheffield is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. The University of Sheffield offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study.
