The Faculty of Social Work - Dr. Judy White Equity and Inclusion Award will be given annually to a student who has either overcome significant adversity, demonstrated community leadership, returned to school as a mature student and/or belongs to a vulnerable or marginalized community. This award recognizes demonstrated financial need, courage, resilience, and participation in extracurricular activities such as volunteer work or involvement in the community. Grades or academic achievement is not a consideration, rather this award honours the virtues which Professor Judy White, epitomizes in her practice, scholarship and community work. Judy’s research on the settlement experiences of immigrants draws on her own immigrant journey to Canada from Trinidad in 1987. Dr. White practiced, taught and served as Dean in the Faculty of Social Work, and served as a board member with numerous community agencies, professional associations and Institutes.
