Writers Project of Ghana is proud to launch Abena Korantemaa Oral History Prize. The prize of GHC 3,500 will be presented at the Pa Gya! Literary Festival in October, celebrating the rich heritage of Ghanaian storytelling.

To qualify for the Abena Korantemaa Oral History Prize, the narrator must be an African woman residing in Ghana and at least 65 years old. The recorder or prize entrant must be an African resident of Ghana, aged 18 or older.Writers Project of Ghana is a literary organization dedicated to promoting creative writing and literature in Ghana. It provides a platform for emerging and established writers through workshops, reading series, and literary events. The organization is known for its commitment to nurturing literary talent and fostering a vibrant literary community in Ghana, including initiatives like the annual Pa Gya.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Ghana
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a recorded oral history narrated by a woman aged 65 years or older.
  • Admissible Criteria:
    • The narrator must be an African woman, resident in Ghana, and at least 65 years old.
    • The recorder or prize entrant must be an African resident in Ghana and be 18 years or older at the time of submission.

Offered Benefits

The winner of the Abena Korantemaa Oral History Prize will receive a monetary award of GHC 3,500. The prize will be awarded during the 2024 Pa Gya! Literary Festival in October.

Application Process

To apply for the Abena Korantemaa Oral History Prize, follow these steps:

  1. Record a 15- to 25-minute oral history narration told by a woman who is at least 65 years old. The recording should be clear and audible.
  2. The recording may be done using a voice recorder, mobile phone, computer, or other recording device.
  3. Send the audio file to the Writers Project of Ghana via WhatsApp at 0267668890 or email it to .
  4. Along with the recording, provide the following information:
    • Name of recorder/prize entrant
    • Email address
    • Telephone number
    • Town/City and Region
    • Name of narrator
    • Age of narrator
    • Language of the story/narration
    • A brief description of what the story/narration is about
    • Why you think people should hear this story.
