International PhD Scholarships in Understanding Nonresponse in Surveys Founded in 1614, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (University of Groningen) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Groningen (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap, Nederland (Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Netherlands), Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 405 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: PhD degree in Understanding Nonresponse in Surveys
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Have a master’s or research master’s degree in for example social sciences, communication science or data science
  • Have had a thorough training in qualitative and quantitative research skills
    formulate a short research proposal before the start of the project, and develop this further together with the research team in the first six months of the research project
  • Have affinity with survey research methodology
  • Have a good command of spoken and written English (C1) and preferably Dutch (B1)
  • Be able to finish the PhD thesis in four years
  • Be able to show perseverance, flexibility, and have organizational and collaboration skills
  • Enjoy the planning, taking initiatives, and academic writing
  • Be able and willing to work in Groningen.

The University of Groningen will provide €2,249 per month (gross) for the PhD candidates.

  • How to Apply: To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants need to take admission in a PhD degree at the University of Groningen. After being enrolled, applicants can apply through an online application form for the position.
  • Supporting Documents: Candidates must submit the following documents:
  •  A recent curriculum vitae
  • A letter of motivation of a maximum of two A4 pages, explaining your interest in the project and detailing your suitability for the scholarship
  • A copy of your diplomas with a list of course grades
  • A copy of your master thesis (or equivalent)
  • Contact details for two to three personal references
  • A research proposal of maximum 1.000 words covering: the title, research question(s), a short introduction, methodology, and research plan (excluding references).
  • Admission Requirements: Before submitting your application form, you need to check any  entry requirements for each qualification you plan to study.
  • Language Requirement: Students must have a certificate of English language proficiency.
