The University of Southampton, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, is pleased to announce the Great Scholarships. The award is available for ambitious students who want to pursue a master’s or advance their career in education.

The award program is open for international students from Nigeria commencing full-time one-year postgraduate master’s degrees. The program will award £10,000 fund to support master’s education in the UK.

UK University of Southampton Great Scholarships for Nigerian Students, 2023 for Master Established in 1952, University of Southampton is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the small city of Southampton (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), South East England. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Winchester. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of Southampton is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Southampton offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Nigeria
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a master’s degree in Education (MSc).
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Applicants must have an admissions offer letter for a postgraduate taught master’s program from one of the programs listed above
  • Applicants must hold a Nigerian passport
  • Applicants also need to supply evidence that they have appropriate experience in education.
  • Bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized Nigerian university or an equivalent professional qualification approved by the University. UK 1st equivalent: GPA 4.5, UK 2:1 equivalent: GPA 3.5 – 3.2 depending on awarding institution.

Offered Benefits

The University of Southampton is offering a £10,000 award issued as a tuition fee reduction for full-time one-year postgraduate master’s degrees.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To consider a scholarship, applicants must apply to study in MSc Education program at the University of Southampton using the online form. After it, applicants can complete the scholarship expression of interest form, which can be accessed  here.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide all the following:
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Proof of appropriate experience in education
  • A copy of the passport
  • Upload a statement of support: write a statement of support for your application for the GREAT scholarship at the University of Southampton. This must be a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 500 words.
  • Admission Requirements: To apply for the master’s degree in education applicants will need a 2:1 degree. Find full requirements for entry in the master’s study.
  • Language Requirement: If English isn’t the first language- applicants must complete an IELTS (6.5) to demonstrate their competence in English. The university accepts the following UKVI Secure English Language Tests:
